The supposed ‘second’ door to the prestigious IITs, GATE 2018 » has been finalised to be held in February next year. The exam will be held on six phases this time, namely February 3, 4, 10 and 11.
Instead of different institutes doing different sections like JEE Advanced in recent years, IIT Guwahati will be setting next year’s GATE exam. M.Tech admissions in the IITs, IISc and NITs are conducted based on GATE scores only.
Besides M.Tech admissions, GATE scores are also being accepted now as the only criteria for certain PSU recruitment. Since 2012, PSUs such as BSNL, IOC, BHEL etc are hiring candidates with high GATE scores being the only criteria for recruitment.
This has added further weight to the pursuit of a strong GATE score. With emphasis on science and technology slowly growing in India, the places for PG courses in top IITs are slowly gaining as much clamour as B.Tech seats usually claim.
