Some may think that keto diet is only just one kind of a conventional fad diet and results are not
really long term but if you do your own research, you’ll know that keto is actually sustainable in
the long run.
In fact, many celebrities have immersed themselves into this diet as their form of “lifestyle reset”
and have noticed drastic changes not only to their physique but in other aspects of life as well.
To be very direct and scientific (and also as a form of recap), a keto diet is well known for being
a low carb diet, where the body produces ketones in the liver to be used as energy. It’s referred
to as many different names – ketogenic diet, low carb diet, low carb high fat diet (LCHF), etc.
In general, keto uses up glucose and burns it up as body energy. Glucose is a type of sugar you
get from the foods ingested (mostly from sweets, both natural and artificial), and your body uses
it for quick energy.
Insulin, on the other hand, is a type of hormone produced and made by the pancreas that
transports the glucose from your blood into the cells for energy.
Because glucose is the most accessible molecule for the body to convert into energy, the fats
are not correctly used (Iona, 2018).
This means that having a high intake of both carbohydrates and fat, you will gain weight. By just
eating low-carb, the body is getting in a metabolic state known as ketosis (Iona, 2018).
